Walter Holt

Walter Holt was a plumber with the Nottingham City Council Water Department and started as a teacher at Peoples College in 1948. He was an inspirational man who left a lasting and life forming impression on many of his pupils who went on to be his friend. If he was running the Football Association today some of the players who spend so much time on the ground would hear his blistering tones. “It’s a man’s game! Get up and get on with it! There will be some pupils who he persuaded to join the Old Boys Team ( he liked to sign them up young) who made the mistake of calling him Walter when off the pitch- which was a privilege reserved only for those that had left school and he reminded them of that in his inimitable style . Here are some press clipping that marked his death in 1993 at the age of 78 and that of his wife Joan in 1999 and one that celebrates his retirement.
