Shrewsbury.Shaw

Those of us that joined the tour of Trent Bridge before the reunion dinner will remember that our guide was extremly knowledgeable about the history of the ground, the club and the players.  You may recall him mentioning that Arthur Shrewsbury, famed batsman, and Alfred Shaw, equally famous bowler, were buried in All Hallows Church in Gedling and at Harold's request, a pitch length apart (22yards) so he give his old colleague a ball or two when felt like it. I am a Gedling resident and knew this to be untrue but couldn't remember the details so I checked. What our guide was not told was that Shaw must have had a long run up because the graves are about 42 yards apart giving him over 20yards to get up speed. The graves have inscriptions and you may enjoy the photographs which are in Items of Interest/Graves of Shrewsbury and Shaw
